These are very good, with tight, deep bass, nice, non-fatiguing detail and great imaging. There seems to be an infinite number of terrific canadian 2 way 8 inch ported speakers.
Energy speakers, now owned by Klipsch were designed at NRC. Enigma speakers were designed and manufactured by Vic Lipton who owned Star Audio on Avenue Road in Toronto from the 1960's to the 1980's. The speakers, woofers and tweeters are from Audax in France. The woofer is either 6.5" or 8: in diameter. The tweeter is either 1" or 1.3 wide (midrange). The Audax site denotes the box size for the woofers, 0.7 cu, ft for the 6.5" woofer and 1.7 cu. ft for the 8" woofer. They are also ported. Sound is just as good as the Energy Pro-22's. I have a pair of Enigma Minx with the 1.3" and 8"The components today are worth over $400 USD\ a pair.
Just picked up a pair of Enigma bookshelf speakers. Audax components with a port in the front similar to your photos. 29 inches high whereas my Minx are 42 inches high and ported in the back. Great speaker with a defined bass even at low volume. I believe the power rating is no more than 70 watts. All rubber surrounds. Where can I send photos to Lloyd for your site as I also have photos of a set on dollies with passive radiators in them.
You're right. Canadian 8" ported two ways are usually good sounding speakers when designed at NRC facilities.
