The Coral CX-77s are astonishing me song after song with their effortless musicality and amazing neutrality. Their dynamics and bass seem so natural, hard now to imagine living without.
I drove across our city of Toronto Canada to a store called Jacobi HiFi in Don Mills, Ontario to listen to these speakers in, well, um, I would say 1976 or '77. I was absolutely blown away by them but because they resembled a current model of Yamaha speaker and I wasn't really familiar with the Coral brand name, I couldn't lay down the $600. But I'd always remembered that day and the 20 mile trip to audition these. I told people at school on Monday that I had listened to Coral speakers on the weekend and they thought I meant KEF Chorale and told me to buy them. I didn't really want to take the time to explain what they really were.
